3-11-08: Picking Imaginary Lint
Scenario: You are speaking with someone that is picking imaginary pieces of lint off of their clothing. This is a body language gesture that shows disapproval. The person displaying this behavior may not approve of what you are saying but does not want to tell you. The act of picking imaginary lint will most often be accompanied by them looking down and away from you. Even if they say they agree with you, the chances are - hey really do not agree with you. Solution: What you can do is ask this person if they agree with you. You can ask them for their opinions on the matter. If they answer you in agreeance but continue to pick imaginary lint off of their clothes, you can bet that they probably do not agree with you and you may have to take a different approach with this person.
