3-25-08: Pointing
Tonya Reiman
Printer-Friendly Format

Scenario: What if you are in a conversation with someone and they start pointing at you?

Solution: This is another body language gesture that needs to be read in context. Although pointing away from someone else to direct their attention to something or someone else is fine, pointing at someone is generally a gesture of insinuation and sometimes aggression. If a person has already been using the single point (one hand) and moves into the double point (two hands), you may have just triggered a hot topic for them. You will wan to keep an eye out for these gestures as they can tell you about a person's strongly held beliefs.
