The Eyes have it!
Tonya Reiman
The eyes are another source of information to the master communicator. Did you know that in general, pupil size increases when people view something stimulating? Another reason why you should learn to be very observant. Eye signals are a very important part of reading another person's thoughts and feelings. It's beyond their control It is also important to recognize that pupil dilation cannot be controlled. It is not a conscious behavior. Studies have shown that increases in pupil size can happen when someone is involved in solving a problem and that the pupils will reach maximum dilation when they arrive at the solution. How can you use this information? Let's say that you are sitting down with a client, showing them a new product, catalog sheet or specs on a new project. You now know that if it is something they are excited about. You may see it in their eyes if they are thinking that they have just come to a positive conclusion about their business in regards to a problem they might be having. You will notice that their pupils are dilating because they just realized your product or plan as a solution. Look for other body language clues that will give signals to how they are feeling. Remember to always look for clusters*. University studies University studies have shown that the pupils of both men and women that are attracted to the opposite sex will dilate when viewing attractive photos of the opposite sex. Looking at someone else with pupils that are dilated makes them look even more attractive. It is neat how it all works. Not only does pupil dilation make that person seem more attractive, but it's also a sign that they might be attracted to you and often times will cause your eyes to dilate in return. So whether you are sitting across from an attractive someone or involved in a face to face encounter with a client or customer, you now understand the power that the eyes have in mastering non-verbal communication. Go, practice and give someone the evil eye :) *Clusters - groups of actions, signs or behaviors that all point to the same body language conclusion.
